Two questions come up on almost every matter: how long does this stay valid, and how do I cancel it if I need to? Both have clear answers — but the validity window in particular depends on the type of POA and how it was issued, so beware anyone quoting a single blanket number.
Validity depends on the type
Different POAs carry different windows. A sale POA, a management POA and a general POA are not treated the same, and a document issued abroad can differ from one issued inside the UAE. We confirm the exact window that applies to your specific case rather than guessing.
⚠ Confirm:Validity windows (e.g. a sale POA used at the DLD, management, and general POAs) vary and sources conflict. Never state a single blanket figure — confirm the exact sell-vs-buy and resident-vs-non-resident windows against current DLD / Courts guidance.
How to revoke a POA
While you are competent, you can revoke a POA at any time — including from abroad. Revocation is itself a notarized act, typically handled through the MOJ portal or the original notary, and we prepare it for you.
- Notarize a revocation — the formal cancellation, prepared and coordinated the same way as the original document.
- Cancel any registration — if the POA was registered (for example with the DLD), that registration is cancelled separately.
- Notify your attorney — so they know their authority has ended.
When a POA ends automatically
A POA also ends automatically on the principal's passing — it cannot be used to act for someone who has died. If your circumstances change, talk to us early; revoking cleanly is far simpler than unwinding an act taken under a document you meant to cancel.
This guide is general information, not legal advice. We prepare and manage your POA; a licensed Dubai Notary Public notarizes it; you appoint the attorney you trust. We are a specialist documents service, not a law firm.
